Christine's Story
I recently competed for GB at the World Duathlon Championships in Targu Mures, Romania. I applied for funding through CSSC Elite Sports fund and was really pleased to have my application accepted, and received support towards my race fees.
The funding was a huge help as anyone who competes in these events knows how costly they can be, it costs/takes a lot to get to the start line, monthly massages to keep me injury free, gym memberships, race entry fees (as part of my training), the race entry fee for the championship race as well as the travel and accommodation once there.
I qualified for the race back in 2019 but because of covid the race was pushed back to this year and the race venue changed from Almere to Targu Mures, it was still uncertain if the race would go ahead (but thankfully the rules changed late in the day) and I made the decision to go, a decision I'm pleased I made.
The race was tough in the heat but I managed to finish in 2nd place winning a silver medal for Great Britain!
