Valuing your Volunteer

While most volunteers get intrinsic pleasure from volunteering, we all like to feel appreciated when we've given our time for free. It's also an essential part of retaining your invaluable CSSC volunteer workforce.

Ways to thank Volunteers

Say thank you both both during and after the performance of their role:

  • Send a letter from a senior club or committe official
  • Send a letter to the volunteer's line manager if they have taken time off from work to complete CSSC volunteering
  • Ensure expenses are available, if required and paid promptly
  • Give or a send a 'thank you' certificate
  • Provide meals, particularly if you are asking the volunteers to be at a venue for longer than half a day
  • Nominate them for an award or certificate under CSSC Recognition Scheme
  • Introduce long service awards
  • Pay for them to atttend relevant skills and training events
  • Have a party/meal outing for volunteers
  • Send a birthday/Christmas/Diwali card etc
  • Buy them a small present or gift
  • Ensure their ideas are listened to and act upon them where practically possible
  • Acknowlege them in in a club newsletter/website
  • Write references for them (if asked) quickly and efficiently
  • Ensure the management of their role and task is good and support is available
  • Give kit or badges to enables volunteers to perform their role
