Volunteers Make it Happen

Volunteers' Week 2021

What's it like volunteering for CSSC?

Have you ever wondered why nearly a quarter of the UK population, and over 1000 CSSC members volunteer their time to benefit others?

The Benefits of Volunteering

CSSC Awards 2021

Each year, we look at recognising the achievements of our volunteers and this year, especially in light of all the challenges 2020 has presented, it's even more important we celebrate their successes.

On joining CSSC, I said to my friend and fellow new member Fiona who ‘introduced’ me on the £20 Member Get Member offer – What’s available for members is fantastic? Why didn’t we join 20 odd years ago?! We’ve missed out on so much! Just need to make up for it now. I went along the same week to the Telford virtual AGM and had such a good social night with a lovely group of people that I agreed to become a volunteer.
CSSC is like a big family, I’ve met so many nice people and over the years I consider them to be friends not just CSSC members. I don’t only organise events, but I find myself chatting to members and their families and taking a genuine interest in them. I’ve had so much genuine appreciation over the years and this is what makes volunteering so special. I really do feel I make a difference to people’s lives and that’s what volunteering is all about.
I am a volunteer as it makes me feel part of the CSSC family, the other committee members have made me feel really welcome. I started to volunteer to understand the benefits of being a CSSC member and now I am trying to share that knowledge within the workplace to encourage others to join.
Through my volunteering with CSSC I have become part of my Area Association community and we support each other and share common goals. I attend the monthly meetings when I can and we discuss all avenues of how we can give the best service and benefit to our members and all the Committee share the same passion.
Although I started as a committee member I am now the treasurer for Telford & District. It is my way of getting involved and making sure the volunteer contributions are spent correctly and fairly. Volunteering is special as it builds a community who are all aiming for the same purpose. I have made many friends and contacts across the country during the time I have been involved and that includes members of Head Office.
