Committee Member Kerry Brown shares her tastecard savings

22nd May 2019

It took me a while to order my free digital tastecard from CSSC, I didn’t realise what I was missing out on until dining out with other CSSC members and finding out they got two meals for the price of one at certain restaurants!

I quickly logged onto the CSSC website and completed a request for my free tastecard code. This came back by e-mail within a few days and then all I had to do was download the tastecard app on my phone and enter my registration code. It was a really simple process.

I soon got used to looking at the tastecard app on my phone, finding out all the restaurants on the ‘near me’ tab (if I was considering eating nearby) or searching by town, city or postcode if planning ahead. Most restaurants offer 241 on starters, mains and desserts – usually for 2 people per Tastecard but some restaurants offer more! That’s a lot of free meals per tastecard!

There are a few restrictions to be aware of, but you soon get used to these and I’ve found I plan around them. Some restaurants don’t take cards on a Friday or a Saturday or bank holidays etc. but these are clearly shown on your app. Some take them all day every day and some you have to book in advance and mention your tastecard. It’s always worth asking too, I recently was at a restaurant and thought I couldn’t get a discount.  However, I still mentioned my tastecard and was given a discount even though it said ‘not Friday’ on the app.

My partner is also a CSSC member, via linked membership, and he soon ordered his free digital tastecard code too. As a family with teenage children, it’s great to use two tastecards for a family of four eating out, giving double the savings.

I’ve used the tastecard far and wide; most often in and around my local area in Sheffield and South Yorkshire, but have also used it in London and also once when travelling up the motorway and searching for a restaurant near where I was (rather than stopping for services food!). I soon found a Frankie and Benny’s a very short drive from the next motorway junction.

There’s a handy section on the app to record how much you’ve saved by showing your Tastecard.  In my first year, I recorded a massive saving of £403.53!

If you were to buy annual membership directly from the tastecard website, it’s £79.99 per year. Make the most of your CSSC membership by getting this fabulous benefit for free!
