This week, schools across England and Wales are breaking up for Christmas, with schools in Scotland following next week. With some districts changing their closure dates in light of current circumstances, it’s well worth checking with your school for any updates.
As a parent myself, I’ve always found this break one of the hardest to entertain my kids. Not after Christmas of course, but this week leading up to the big day is always a pickle. The days are the shortest, the weather is always unpredictable, yet always predictably cold, many of the activities available in the summer and other holidays are closed and of course, this year more than any other we’re restricted with whom we can socialise.
But that doesn’t have to mean a week stuck indoors watching the TV. Well, perhaps just a little.
Get your homework done early
Is often met with a combination of tutting, laughs, eye rolling and “yes dads”. Closely followed by a week of hibernation in said ‘eye roller’s’ bedroom. But it’s still solid advice. What are the chances of getting it done in the New Year, once they have that latest games console?
Getting out and about while we can
In most parts of the UK, lockdown restrictions have been lifted to varying degrees, so why not wrap up warm and go exploring.
Loads of historic and heritage sites have reopened many of their grounds and the crisp, clear weather, together with stunning frosty landscapes, make this an amazing time to visit.
It’s also a great time to visit our woodlands and forests. And while you’re there, why not take in an aerial view at one of 30 Go Ape centers around the UK. From Aberdeen to Wyre, many centers have special evening and sun down adventures, not to be missed.
There’s no place like home
Of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without some awesome TV and movies to watch, so why not treat yourself to some of our home entertainment offers like Sky Store, Chili, Amazon Prime Video or Disney+, which you can save a bundle on if you take out a TOTUM PRO discount card.
Or, if you prefer your movies on the big screen, don’t forget about our discount on Nightflix, the drive-in movie experience.
Plus, to really maximise those home creature comforts, you could make huge savings on your takeaways and click and collect with tastecard.
However you choose to spend your festive break over the next few weeks, we hope you have a fab time counting down the days. For loads of great hobbies, arts, crafts and savings, don’t forget to visit our partner pages at things to do online.
