Plastic Free July

01st Jul 2022

Plastic Free July is an incredibly important movement to raise awareness of a growing global problem. It offers helpful hints, resources and practical solutions to waste management, with easy-to-follow ideas on cutting plastic waste from our households and businesses.

Check out the website which is home to loads of really useful ideas.

Take up the challenge

Plastic Free July challenges us all to make small changes which collectively make huge differences to the planet. By choosing not to use single-use plastic throughout the month of July it hopes to inspire future generations to form new habits, find alternatives and go further and cut plastics for much longer. Ready to take the challenge? Complete the form and tell the world you care about reducing plastics and join in the movement.

We can all do more

Every country, every industry, every department, every household and every individual can do more to help reduce plastic waste. Whether it’s always taking a cloth bag with you shopping, organising a litter pick in your neighbourhood or banning plastic cups in workplaces. It all helps improve the planet for nature, for the environment and for future generations. See some excellent resources, videos and ideas to get started.

CSSC is working hard to remove as much plastic from our organisation as possible. We are committed to using less plastic in our head office, at our events and with our partners. Where possible we always try to reduce waste and reuse and recycle. We have provided all staff with metal water bottles to replace plastic cups. Where feasible we’ve replaced plastic cups and utensils with paper, cardboard and wooden ones, at our functions. We’ve introduced new initiatives to turn off all monitors from sleep mode, reduce the use of air conditioning, and turn off lights at every opportunity. We’ve reduced our paper wastage at head office and at events, we send tickets electronically instead of physical paper tickets to save on paper and delivery emissions, and we’re working hard to recycle all waste throughout the organisation.

Many of the partners we work with have incredible environmental credentials and we’re always pleased to hear ideas from our staff, volunteers and members on how we can go even further. We know there’s much further to go and much more we can do, but with your help and your ideas, we’re confident we can cut our plastic waste in half.

If you have any ideas you’d like us to consider, please get in touch on any of our Social Media channels and share your ideas to start a reduce, reclaim, recycle revolution.
