For the first time, a full field of 16 players took part in the 2019 qualifier at Terry Griffith’s Matchroom centre in Llanelli. It was really good to see so many new faces. Feedback from those that attended was really good and so many said it was great to play so much snooker throughout the day.
Congratulations must go out to all the prize winners, Dai Mills, Ieuan Roberts, Chris Davies (who will now go onto the national finals in stoke in November), along with James Varney and Ieuan Jones who took the honours in the plate competition.
With so many taking part it was good to see how the Plate competition took on its own importance and allowed all of us to play and compete, In fact, James who won the plate had earlier come bottom of his group!!
Dai storms ahead
Meanwhile, the main event was of a very high standard and frankly anyone of the 8 that qualified could have gone onto the finals but it was Dai Mills with breaks of 73 clearance (against yours truly and another 72 against Ashley) who stormed to the title barely dropping a frame along the way.
Hardwork all round
Ieuan Roberts had a fantastic debut in the event making his way to the final beating former champion Keith Moore and local favourite Chris Davies along the way. Chris put his disappointment to one side in beating Ashley Galliers in a hard-fought 3rd place playoff.
