CSSC Fantasy Football | Newport

25th Jul 2019
UPDATE - 26/08/2019 - WEEK 3

Strong performances for Bradley Flood and Stuart Rutter push them into 1st and 2nd places, at the expense of Marc Bailey who slips to 4th. The consistent Deb Grace is in 3rd, but just 8 points separate 1st and 4th.

The top scorers of the week were Stephen Gray (now 11th), Leanne Sutton (27th)  and Andrew Watkins (5th).

Last year’s champion Grant Symons appears well off the pace, down in 32nd place. And last year’s runner up Ian Blackmore is also yet to fire, currently in 23rd place. Both managers appear to be carrying hangovers from their end of season parties.

It’s still very early days as teams jockey for position. Good luck to you all

Second week of the season and things are yet to settle down. A strong performance from Marc Bailey pushes him into top spot, followed closely by Bradley Flood, Chris Millard and Deb Grace.

Adam Wheeler, the manager of ‘Obi one Kenobi nil’ is in 22nd position after a strong week. Katie Norman, Juliet Sidney and Kevin Hewitt also had strong weeks.

Last year’s winner Grant Symons is yet to fire, currently in 25th position. So too Paul Brown, 2017/18 runner-up in 24th position. But it’s too early to discount those with a pedigree.

UPDATE – 13/08/19 - WEEK 1

We’re back for our third season in the CSSC Newport Fantasy Football league. Each year the league gets bigger, with 37 hopeful managers all wanted to be the next Sir Alex Ferguson.

You’ve excelled yourselves once again with the team names. Alongside some classic entries like “Jonny’s Allstars”, “Dan’s Dazzlers” and “Wocca’s Shankers”, we find a host of player-based puns like “Crouch Potato” and “Deeney in a Bottle”.

The early pace setters include newbie Peter Button and returners Marc Bailey and Deb Grace. Last season’s winner Grant Symons is further back in mid-table, followed by the likes of Steve James, Dean Goold and Marjorie Millard.

The addition of a ‘captain’ in this year’s rules has proved controversial. We have already received 7 formal complaints from Lisa Hodge’s agent Lewis about this rule, all of which have been dismissed.

Good luck for the season ahead.

- Ryan Oliver, Fantasy Football organiser for CSSC Newport.
