Dan's Story
European Championships
In September 21 I was fortunate to represent Great Britain in Triathlon at the 2021 European Championships in Valencia. Triathlon is a multi-sport discipline which can be completed over various distances ranging from sprint to Ironman, I competed in the Olympic distance event which consisted of a 1.5 Km Swim, 40 Km Bike and 10 Km Run.
Representing GB & The Race
This was my first time representing GB and one that I wasn't sure would happen due to COVID so just getting out there was a big relief. The race was worth the wait, an early start meant diving in to the warm water of the marina and seeing the sunrise as we made our way round course. Three laps of a fast and flat bike course followed on perfectly smooth roads without a pothole in sight.
After a quick final transition it was on to the run leg, another 3 lap route around the marina. The support was incredible throughout the whole race and I was delighted to complete it in a time of 2 hours 10 mins, exceeding expectations and finishing 8th in my Age Group.
The Elite Competitors
The CSSC elite competitors fund was a massive help in covering some of the costs involved, helping towards race entry fees, kit and travel expenses. I now have my sights set on next year's European Championships which starts with putting in the miles over the winter!
