13 ways to get more active this year

How to kick-start an active lifestyle with a little help from CSSC, from trying something new to getting support for things you already do!

1. Complete a Parkrun Challenge

The parkrun challenge is back, bigger and better than before with plenty of opportunities to win Love2Shop vouchers.

For every parkrun you take part in from Saturday 3 February to Saturday 27 October you will be entered into monthly prize draws. The more parkrun events you take part in each month, the better your chances of winning a prize.

2. Become an 'Inspire Me' blogger

We are looking for CSSC members who would like to transform their current lifestyle and become more active in 2018 while also documenting their journey along the way.

Your weekly progress will be posted on the CSSC website and social media pages to help inspire others to be more active! You can even receive Love2Shop vouchers to help keep you motivated.

3. Seek support from the CSSC online advice surgery

For 2018 the Online Advice Surgery will be permanently open!

Ask questions on running, walking, swimming or cycling to our dedicated online volunteer advisors who will be able to use their years of experience to answer your queries. Whether you have questions about the right running footwear or tips for cycling on the roads, you can choose a volunteer advisor that's right for you!

Also, new for 2018 is the addition of the Nutrition and Personal Training Advisors, who are ready to give free advice on gym workouts, healthy breakfast ideas and much more.

4. Apply for support from the Physical Activity Fund

Fancy organising lunchtime exercise classes for your colleagues or badminton after work in your local area?

Apply to CSSC's Physical Activity Fund to start a new activity and CSSC can help cover the instructor, venue and equipment costs for up to 8 weeks.

5. Find and use gym discounts

9. Apply for support from the Activity Subsidy Scheme

If you are setting your own personal challenge this year and signing up to one of the many 5k, 10k, half marathons or muddy obstacle courses on offer, CSSC can help cover up to £40 of the entry fee costs. The Activity Subsidy Scheme allows you to undertake an activity when and where it best suits you rather than dictating a date, time or a venue.

10. Apply for support from the Training Subsidy Scheme

Become a sports coach, referee or umpire and CSSC can subsidies your training fees. 

The scheme will pay up to 50% of the course costs with a maximum per course reimbursement of £75 for any member undertaking accredited training for sports coaching, refereeing, umpiring or similar roles as an official.

Members can claim for 1 training course per year.

13. Discover a new passion

CSSC organise a wide variety of events catering for all standards, these include National finals, Open Championships, Trips and Days Out and Taster Days. Qualify through your region to compete in a National event or attend an Open Championships - open for all members to take part in! With a variey of organised trips, both domestic and abroad, you'll be sure to find something to try!
