Fundraising for Marie Curie with Will Baggus

I had been looking for a new challenge in 2019 and my friend who works for Marie Curie mentioned the Vietnam trek. I thought it would be a great personal challenge and a fantastic way to raise vital funds for a charity that provides amazing support at one of the hardest times of life.

My walking experience is limited and has only involved mainly short mountain walks around South Wales, nothing compared to what I have signed up for with this challenge, but living in South Wales I have the perfect surroundings to train in. Ranging from mountain walks to coast walks, to take into account the different landscapes I will be facing, I think it will also include a few trips up Pen Y Fan.

The Vietnam trek itself will be over 5 days in October 2019; covering approximately 90Km and trekking for 7-8 hours each day. The first day of we will be travelling from Hoa Binh to Na Bai, which is approximately 20km. From there we will travel to Hang Kia being around 16km. Day three of the trek will be travelling 18km to Cun Pheo. Day four is the longest day of travel being 23km to Van Mai. The final day of trekking will be the shortest day, only 10km to Ban Lac. The landscape will change daily from lake to jungle, to bright green rice paddy fields and soaring mountains covered in dense rainforest.

I use my My Savings+ account regularly and I plan on using it to buy some new equipment like walking boots, I think it’s time for an upgrade! The cash back I get from buying new equipment I will be putting towards the fundraising as well. I also plan to take full advantage of the walking discounts and walking maps and routes that can be found through the My Active part of the website, I’m sure my friends will thank me for finding new routes!
