Give Voice to Our Values - Results

Watch our winners' presentation

We asked you to put pen to paper and wow us with your literary prowess to bring one of CSSC’s four company values to life. Thank you to everyone who entered! You didn’t disappoint! Every story, memory or narrative submitted, encapsulated the true essence of our values

We were impressed by the quality and range of creative writing submitted. Each piece was wonderful in its own way, and it was a pleasure to read such a diversity of styles and voices – from fiction and science-fiction to memoir and biography.

Our stellar judging panel included members of the writing department at City Lit, one of our most valued partners.

We have great pleasure in announcing the winners

Winner: The Kit-Kat Man – Teresa Kirby

A poignant, beautifully crafted exploration of passion through the unexpected symbol of the Kit Kat wrapper. We thoroughly enjoyed the rich, evocative writing and the moving tale of past love and loss. A wonderful and touching story economically told yet still able to carry a huge emotional weight. (Prize: a free place on an 11-12 week Writing course at City Lit)

Runner Up: Legacy – Sue Crawford

We enjoyed and appreciated the ambition of this piece, and the experimental approach to perspective:  the way the writer forced us to embody the thoughts and feelings of the characters.  This piece impressed us with its power, vivid characterisation, and visceral description. (Prize: a free place on a 5-6 week short course at City Lit)

One Ice Cream: Fiona Bray

A clear and compelling voice emerges in this piece to show us something of the goodness of humanity. A refreshing, and well-written narrative that turns a simple act of kindness into a memorable lesson for us all. (Prize: a free place for each commendation on one of City Lit's short taster/day course)

The winners have agreed to their entries and names being shared.
