The Civil Service Bowling Association (CSBA) is the CSSC Sports and Recreation body responsible for delivering the sport of level green bowls. This is achieved by co-ordinating the activities of the National Associations for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
National associations
The four National Associations arrange their own programmes of matches against county and other associations. These matches are held at bowls clubs throughout the UK and many CSBA members take part. Financial help is available towards the cost of travelling to matches as well as the cost of accommodation where this is justified.
CSBA Open tournament - 2023
The main event organised by CSBA is an annual Open Tournament held over four days from 25 June - 29 June, funded by those attending, with the venue rotating between the four Associations. Each National Association provides a team of 10 players to represent it in singles, pairs, triples and fours. These players are usually selected from the winners of the National Open competitions where held.
For those attending tournament who are not in the national team, Open Pairs and Plate competitions are held alongside the international competitions. In addition, a series of evening matches are organised against local bowls clubs. For those who do not play, a couple of interesting daytime trips are organised. On the last day of the tournament, to conclude the event, there is a presentation dinner.
This years tournament will begin at 9am sharp on the Monday morning with a local ceremony in which a local will throw the first bowl. After the final bowl is thrown on Thursday and the scores are all added up, there is a presentation ceremony which involves a 3 course dinner along with the presentation of all winner and runners up (please see the dinner menu choices below)
