If you’re planning to visit the Welsh valleys, no trip to the land of the castles is complete without taking in the magnificent heritage of Cadw. Wales boasts the greatest concentration of historic monuments, castles, churches and places of interest in the UK.

Coronavirus guest update

Selected Cadw sites will be closed from 5 December. A number of other Cadw sites will remain open, but with indoor areas of the monuments closed due to the latest government regulations.

Please check the Cadw website to see which sites are open and the restrictions in place. All visitors will still be required to pre-book tickets in advance of visiting due to reduced capacity.

About Crug Caeth

Criccieth Castle may also have given the name to the town rather than the other way round. Its suggested origins are ‘crug caeth’ – ‘crug’ (hill in Welsh), ‘caith’ (captives) – the name given to the jail on the hill, a function once held by the castle. Buy an ice-cream, there’s a lot of history to digest.

2nd of 3. Not much too see here as tgere are only ruins. But well worth the view. On a ckear day look through the viewing telescope and you can see Harlech Castke.

Only ruins survive but there are great views from the top, looking out to sea and over the surrounding coast and hills.
