CSSC structure

Learn more about our governance structure and the roles and responsibilities of the different councils and associations that all contribute to the running of CSSC.

CSSC Board

Our Board is responsible for forming policy and overseeing the conduct of our business. The CSSC board consists of the following roles:

  • Chair
  • 3 Vice-Chairs
  • Honorary Treasurer
  • NED DE&I Adviser
  • 12 elected members

The full Board meets four times a year and in between, specific responsibilities are carried out by the Resources, Sport and Leisure and Volunteer committees.

Regional councils

Our councils are responsible for organising our regional activities programme, covering leisure trips and sporting activities.

Our Workplace associations are formed and controlled by each department and vary in terms of size and the range of activities they offer. We support these departments with funding and resource where required.

Area associations

Area associations are responsible for local activities. Our areas vary greatly in size and offer a range of sporting and leisure activities which are either organised by area committee or purchased and offered at subsidised rates.

A few area associations also run their own club, which vary in size and offer a range of different sporting facilities.

Health & fitness centres and Alpha fitness

We provide a large number of health and fitness centres (HFCs) in partnership with departments within Civil Service buildings. These national HFCs are typically run by a locally elected committee.

In addition, Alpha Fitness Management Solutions runs four gyms, which are managed by our staff.

We have a team of over 60 staff, the majority of whom are based in our Head Office in High Wycombe. They provide services including:  Customer support, Event management, Estate management, Finance, Marketing, Membership recruitment, Sports development, Volunteer support.

Our field staff are based across the country and responsible for membership recruitment, leading our volunteer teams and promotion of CSSC and our activities.

Sport and recreational bodies

To help promote sport to our members, we have our sport and recreational bodies and national advisors. They organise a range of different events including: National championships, Interdepartmental events, Representative matches, and Training.

Some bodies run facilities such as sailing boats or have fishing waters.
