The Organisation

CSSC is an Industrial and Provident Society owned by its members. We provide sport and leisure opportunities for civil servants throughout the UK ranging from international level sport to theatre trips and taster sessions to family fun days. We set up health and fitness centres in government buildings, as well as owning sports grounds and fishing and sailing waters. There are over 60 Head Office staff located mainly in High Wycombe and London but most CSSC activities are run by volunteers, of which we have at least 10,000.CSSC has 145,000 members and is funded primarily by subscriptions and a grant from the Cabinet Office. We have four trading subsidiaries and own 50% of a joint venture company which develops and operates health clubs and small sided soccer sites.

Overall purpose of role

The Regional Treasurer is a member of the CSSC South West Regional Executive Committee and is responsible for maintaining an up to date and accurate record of all Regional financial transactions.

Current tasks include:

Maintaining an accurate, up to date record of all financial transactions.

Preparing such financial records as are required to include at least an Income and Expenditure account and a quarterly Bank Reconciliation Statement and to have these records available for checks by any CSSC Authorised Officer(s) promptly. To present an up to date copy of such records to each Executive Committee Meeting and to each Regional Council meeting.

Keep all Income and Expenditure Vouchers, cheque book and paying in books secure.

Maintaining the bank account properly.

Preparing annual accounts for audit.

Maintaining a high level of security at all times.

Preparing and presenting an estimate of income and expenditure for the following year at the request of CSSC Head Office.

Submitting a copy of the annual accounts to CSSC Head Office promptly.

Attending Regional events as agreed by the Regional Executive Committee to assist and thank the organiser and present trophies.

Ensuring that all Regional Organisers submit competition accounts in compliance with Regional Council policy.

Working closely with the person responsible for Regional sales of cinema tickets to ensure that accurate records are kept of their sale and of the monies received.

How much time will I need to give?

  • Four quarterly regional meetings per year plus CSSC's two day Conference in June each year.
  • Attendance at regional events depending on personal availability
  • Most of these events happen between Monday and Friday

What else can you tell me about the role?

As the Treasurer you must be well organised, able to keep records, careful when handling money and cheques, scrupulously honest, able to answer questions in meetings and confident in handling figures. As a key supporting officer to the regional chairman it will be useful for you to be easily accessible and have access to email

There is an emerging CSSC Strategic Plan with a renewed clarity of purpose and approach to working with our partners to make a difference for and through CSSC activity. The role of the Treasurer will be pivotal to the success of CSSC's Strategic Plan at regional level driving forward strategic development and partnership working.

Interviews

Prospective candidates will be interviewed in May at the Cheltenham CSSC Club where they will have the opportunity to meet with the Regional Officers and key staff.
