Organisation
CSSC is an Industrial and Provident Society owned by its members. We provide sport and leisure opportunities for civil servants throughout the UK ranging from international level sport to theatre trips and taster sessions to family fun days. We set up health and fitness centres in government buildings, as well as owning sports grounds and fishing and sailing waters. There are over 60 Head Office staff located mainly in High Wycombe and London but most CSSC activities are run by volunteers, of which we have at least 10,000.

CSSC has 135,000 members and is funded primarily by subscriptions and a grant from the Cabinet Office. We have four trading subsidiaries and own 50% of a joint venture company which develops and operates health clubs and small sided soccer sites.

Role specification
The overall purpose of the role will be to guide and lead the meetings of the Regional Management Board.  To be responsible for the smooth running of the Region and interaction between CSSC Head Office and the Region and the following specific tasks:

1. Work with the Regional Manager and BDE (Business Development Executive) & other Regional Board members towards development of strategic aims and objectives and relevant action plans

2. Lead the Regional Strategic Plan & ensure that deadlines are met

3. Lead Regional Volunteer Support programme

4. Chair meetings of the Regional Management Board

5. Represent the Region at National Conference and other national events where appropriate

6. Oversee management of the Region to ensure CSSC rules are adhered to, Value for Money (VFM) is obtained and proper financial controls are executed

7. Support Regional Board Members in order that they perform their duties effectively; Advise, assist and support other Regional Officers and the BDE as necessary

8. Work closely with BDE & other Regional officers to encourage teamwork within the Region

9. Represent the Region as appropriate (e.g. CSSC national finals, merit award presentations or funerals within the Region)

10. Foster liaison and co-operation with Departments and other sports and leisure organisations and employers

11. Liaise and visit Area Associations regarding their Development

12. Take forward Head Office initiatives into the Region
 

Person specification :  
Experience of Committee Chairmanship, financial and people management in a senior role is essential.  (Previous holders of this position have been serving or retired members of the CS).
Ability to operate at a strategic level.
Good independent judgement.
Ability to work effectively as a team member with other volunteers and staff from a wide variety of backgrounds.
A general enthusiasm for sport and/or the voluntary sector would be helpful.
