CSSC actively seeks a Chairman for the CSSC Angling Council, to lead and manage the development and delivery of Angling within the CSSC sports and leisure programme.

The role provides the opportunity to influence the future development of Angling within CSSC at a time when the sport is leading the way on a variety of new initiatives and stakeholder issues. Like all nationally supported activities, CSSC is keen for Angling to attract new and growing levels of interest throughout the country. This is pivotal role within the CSSC Angling Council at a very important time.

Role Specification
The overall purpose of the role will be to guide and lead the meetings of the CSSC Angling Council and the business therein. To be responsible for the smooth running of Angling, interaction between the Sports & Leisure Committee, the CSSC Event Team and other CSSC head office departments. Specific tasks would include:

1 Work with the Event Team and other members of the CSSC Angling Council towards the development of strategic aims, objectives and action plans.
2 Lead the CSSC Angling Council in ensuring objectives are achieved.
3 Chair meetings of the CSSC Angling Council
4 Represent CSSC Angling Council at Annual Conference and attend national CSSC Angling activities
5 Oversee the management of the CSSC Angling Council, ensuring that CSSC rules are adhered to, value for money is obtained and financial controls are executed.
6 Support the CSSC Angling Council members in performing their duties effectively: advise and assist other members of the Council where necessary, and encourage teamwork.
7 Foster liaison and co-operation with government departments, other sports and leisure organisations and CSSC stakeholder groups.

Personal specification

o Experience of Committee Chairmanship, financial and people management is essential.
o Ability to operate at a strategic level
o Good independent judgement
o Ability to work effectively as a team member with other volunteers and staff from a wide variety of backgrounds.
o A general enthusiasm for sport and /or the voluntary sector would be helpful.
o Knowledge of angling and CSSC's angling programme is desirable, but not essential as support and induction will be provided as necessary.

The successful member will be expected to complete a CSSC Volunteer Agreement and, if an active angler, would not be expected to compete at CSSC National Finals.

Time commitment
Subject to the personal approach of the successful applicant and availability, between 10 and 20 days per year.

Reasonable expenses as necessary based on Civil Service practice

Organisation
CSSC is an Industrial and Provident Society owned by its members. We provide sport and leisure opportunities for civil servants throughout the UK ranging from international level sport to theatre trips and taster sessions to family fun days. We set up health and fitness centres in government buildings, as well as owning sports grounds and fishing and sailing waters. There are over 50 Head Office staff located mainly in High Wycombe and London but volunteers, of which we have at least 10,000, run most CSSC activities.

CSSC has in excess of 125,000 members and is funded primarily by membership subscriptions. We have four trading subsidiaries and own 50% of a joint venture company, which develops and operates health clubs and small-sided soccer sites.
