How did you get into CSSC?
I joined CSSC in, I think, 1994 when I joined the civil service working for the MOD at Abbey Wood.
Where do you Work?
Bristol, Natural England.
What do you do?
After transferring from the MOD to what was then MAFF and moved to Nottingham in 2000, I returned to Bristol in 2001 to take up an Accommodation Officer role with what was then Defra?. Now (For the moment anyway) Natural England. Different Company name..same job...
What is your proudest moment/ memory of being a CSSC Volunteer?
The opening of Trym Gym at Bristol, even though I had to leave the actual opening to a work colleague as I had taken a career break to sun myself in Portugal. It was hard work overseeing the works to the showers and liaising with different Government Departments to ensure as little disruption to the day to day work was caused? but great fun and a great sense of achievement when it was all completed...
How did you get involved in volunteering for CSSC?
Through Trym Gym... liaising with them about the equipment we needed for the Gym, applying for help with funding and also I had taken on the role of membership secretary and Treasurer of the Gym when I came back to work after my time off in Portugal. Membership was quite low and needed some work to give it a boost. I asked CSSC for help and they were only too happy to obliged.
What do you do as a CSSC Volunteer?
I worked alongside CSSC staff to boost usage of our facility and also encourage people to join CSSC. Promoting the many other benefits of membership, sporting events and activities.
What are the best bits about volunteering for CSSC (and the worst bits)?
Working with great people, seeing the difference a little exercise and activity can bring to someone? haven't found any bad bits yet
What has kept you involved as a volunteer with CSSC?
It has never crossed my mind to stop...I enjoy helping people...
What does it mean to be given a CSSC Certificate of Recognition?
A lot... I don't do things for recognition but it is so nice to feel that the people you work with appreciate the little things you try to do. It makes it all worth while.
What would you say to other people who might want to volunteer with CSSC?
Do it... it's lots of fun and great for meeting new people and doing different things.
