Volunteer Profile - Clair WilsonAreaNewsGraphic

Clair Wilson's enthusiasm has ensured Hill Walking is one of CSSC's most popular national activities. Clair tells us why she enjoys being a CSSC volunteer.

What is your proudest moment/memory of being a CSSC Volunteer?

Finding out Hill Walking had won the Hayward Trophy for the best national activity for 2007. For a non competitive activity to be recognised by a mainstream sports association club was amazing. It was a testament to how CSSC welcomes all sports and activities for its members.

How did you get involved in volunteering for CSSC?

I attended the national Hill Walking events and the organiser decided he wanted to retire from organising the events. I really enjoyed the few weekends I had attended and didn't want to miss out on the fun.

What do you do as a CSSC Volunteer?

I organise five Hill Walking weekends each year including Scottish Winter, Summer Hill Walking and Multi Activity weekends. I also organise Spa Experiences and other social events for South Yorkshire Area Association CSSC members.

What are the best bits about volunteering for CSSC (and the worst bits)?

The best bit about volunteering is seeing a group of people arrive for Hill Walking on a Friday, not knowing each other or what to expect. They gradually transform into a group of friends, recanting tales of woe from this and other weekends. By Monday, they are already looking forward to the next event.

What has kept you involved as a volunteer with CSSC?

The opportunity to meet up with friends I have made through Hill Walking and the opportunity to introduce new people to the sport that I am passionate about. The support and appreciation from the regular attendees of Hill Walking helps make my life easier and ensures we all have a brilliant time.

What would you say to other people who might want to volunteer with CSSC?

There is so much support available to make an event happen.

Everyone within the Areas, Regions and Head Office are willing to help you get things off the ground.
