Make a Difference

CSSC invites Area Associations to engage with this new volunteering initiative whereby you offer members the opportunity to give something back to the local community where they live and work.

Starting with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), during 2011 CSSC will offer local Area Associations a number of opportunities to engage with volunteering initiatives. The benefits include:

  • Members will get the opportunity to develop new skills
  • Members can meet new friends and have fun
  • The AA will get a chance to meet members
  • The AA's profile with local employers will be enhanced
  • A chance for the AA to recruit new volunteers
  • The AA will be offering something new for members

The RHS have two volunteer initiatives: 'RHS Britain in Bloom' and 'RHS It's your Neighbourhood'. These initiatives are making a real difference to how local environments look and include:

  • Creating wildflower meadows
  • Bulb and tree planting
  • Caring for conservation areas
  • Restoring churchyards
  • Converting disused space into useable green space

Many AAs offer a wide and varied programme; why not add a new slant to your programme? Community volunteering whereby members, under the banner of CSSC, put something back into their local community. If the RHS isn't for you how about giving English cricket cubs a helping hand?

NatWest CricketForce - 8,9, 10 April 2011

This year, CSSC is encouraging you to roll up your sleeves, get dirty and be creative by being part of the largest grass roots sports volunteer project of the year - NatWest CricketForce.

NWCF is a self help programme for English Cricket Board affiliated clubs to help them recruit more volunteers and improve their facilities. It began in 2002 with 1 club and 200 volunteers and has grown so much that in 2010 1642 clubs took part with an estimated 85,000 volunteers helping out.

Clubs that take part in NatWest CricketForce undertake a wide range of large and small projects to benefit their club - ranging from planting, building, clearing, repairing and cleaning. Clubs are provided with NWCF t-shirts to allocate to their volunteers on the day - and with people of all ages from the local community taking part and helping out, it really helps to create a superb atmosphere and a great sense of camaraderie

The weekend will provide an opportunity for your members to get involved with your local club and really help to make a difference within the community.
