The Cricket SRB recently held their first conference, bringing together regional organisers,
team managers and area representatives to discuss everything cricket. The first day of the
conference was staged at the Union Jack Club in London and the second was at the home of Cricket Lord's Cricket Ground. It was a fruitful meeting with many topics covered which was rounded off with a tour of Lord's which was greatly appreciated by the Cricket enthusiasts.
A few notes on each discussion point below.
Curtis Bennett
- Introduction of seeding teams to avoid the minnows playing the dominant sides
- Earlier release of playing schedule to allow teams to make plans, especially given special leave requests
- Set two dates of a month for fixtures to be played
- Keep the plate competition - despite poor numbers in the last 2 seasons
Cricket 6s
- Move from a National Final to an open championship. Max entry 12 or 16 teams.
- Qualifiers from regional competition will still have expenses covered other team entries will have to pay.
New competitions
- Easy Cricket, it was felt Easy Cricket would be more suitable for the areas / DAs. The ECB can provide cricket equipment bags or free
- Indoor Cricket, the committee are going to looking onto the feasibility of running an indoor competition possibly in February/March.
Other issues discussed
I mentioned the new membership rules as well the possible coaching / officiating subsidy scheme
- A possible charity match North vs South
- Bringing women's cricket under the committee
- Cricket at the CSSC Games
