South Essex (formerly Southend) Area Association is making its mark within its community. Creating awareness featured strongly in this highly commended application.

Good practice ideas

• The association rather than run events grant aids departments in their catchment. Members, it is reckoned, are therefore more likely to see a tangible benefit for their membership as this system allows individual offices to run their own events.
• This approach also lessens the administrative burden on the AA's volunteer workforce.
• The Association operates a very successful cinema ticket scheme. This plus an attractive discount scheme with a local Adventure Park helped the Association attract 550 new members during 2007.
