Cardiff Area Association was awarded the Russell Scott Trophy for the best all round Area Association in 2008.

The Association's rise since the closure of their ground has been remarkable. Starting with an almost entirely new committee, they can now boast a programme which has wide appeal. Here are a few of their successes in 2008:

  • In 2008, the association ran many events for its members and their families including trips to Chepstow Races, Chelsea Flower Show and a London theatre weekend.
  • The association helped to recruit 287 new members during 2008.
  • Communication was key to this Area's success. Members were regularly contacted by email.
  • The Association offered members a very attractive 25% discount on usage of local authority leisure facilities.
  • Members were able to obtain a 25% discount from the Association for various local tourist attractions and other activities.
  • The Association introduced a step by step guide to assist members willing to get involved with volunteering.
  • During 2008, the Association organised regular prize draws for tickets to major sports events in the city. This attracted interest from over a 1000 members.
  • The Association held a Christmas prize draw which attracted 183 new members.
  • The Association are keen advocates of IT and promote their programme through their website.
