Certificate of Recognition - Paul Wren

Paul Wren's efforts on behalf of CSSC Fencing attract recognition

Paul is the Chairman of CSSC SPARTA/CSSC London Fencing Club, and he was recently presented with a Certificate of Recognition by James Kennedy, CSSC Business Development Executive in appreciation of his invaluable contribution to CSSC fencing.

Paul's responsibilities within the club are varied and include organising social events, alongside finding the time to marshal London's fencing entry to CSSC National competitions as well as running regular and intermediate fencing courses at CSSC Chadwick Street Recreation Centre.

These fencing events as well as Departmental Sports Day taster sessions have allowed Paul the chance to reach many newcomers, members who have never had the opportunity to fence before to get involved. Paul's warm and patient manner has helped encourage these individuals to fence as a hobby and create friendships with the existing members at the club.

Paul had actually attempted to start a fencing club in his department back in 1994. The advice he received by his then Departmental Association Secretary was to acquire a fencing qualification. This did not hold him back and very promptly Paul had achieved his fencing qualification. Following up all the information needed about starting a club and of course all the paperwork, Paul, through his efforts and determination, created the SPARTA ODPM Fencing Club and one year after this CSSC London Fencing Club was formed.

Since the start of these fencing clubs Paul has been the key figure leading the way with many people suggesting that if Paul had not dedicated his time to this sport, then the fencing clubs would not still exist. His boundless patience and knowledge has kept the clubs vibrant, full of energy and a well supported part of CSSC London's activity programme.

Testimony to Paul's commitment and effort is the high proportion of members whose enthusiasm remains as high as when they first joined the club.
