CSSC's Alpha Gyms raise over £1,500 for Sport Relief 2010Sports Relief teaser

The Alpha gyms did their bit for Sport Relief this year by organising a number of events at different locations which raised over £1,500.

Alpha Fitness Management Solutions is the fitness management arm of CSSC running a number of fitness facilities in Civil Service workplaces.

Highlights included Sue at DSTL Fort Halstead completing her Sponsored Mile in full fire fighter gear. At around five foot tall this was no easy task.

At the Alpha gym at the DVLA in Swansea, Ben and Kirstie organised such a popular event that they had to move it out of the gym and into the grounds outside! More than 100 people left their desks to take part in the Sponsored Mile, so a course was marked out around the grounds so that everyone could take part in this great event. All participants not only got the satisfaction of 'doing their bit' for Sport Relief, but they all got awarded with a Sport Relief sticker for their efforts!!

Another highlight was at the Department for Children, Schools and Families in London where Sara and her team helped run a dri-athlon. This is where teams of three take part on a bike, rower and treadmill. Their goal was to go as far as possible in the allotted 10 minutes. With some amateur tri-athletes in the field there were some impressive distances covered. Even our own David Bell took part to support this fantastic cause.

A number of other Alpha clubs around the country opened up the gyms to all staff to allow them to take part. Just by taking ten minutes out of their lunch break, collecting sponsorships and having the convenience of a gym within their building allowed the staff to contribute to this worthy cause.

A big thank you to all the Alpha staff, organisers and volunteers who made this happen; without them none of this would be possible. Well done everyone!
