Angling Summit

Getting all CSSC regional organisers from each angling discipline in the same place at the same time is no easy feat, so when the vast majority confirmed they could make it to Harrogate for a Friday/Saturday summit this month, the Angling Council and CSSC Event Team put together a busy agenda to make the most of this great opportunity.

The business covered included:

  • An update on CSSC in general, Sports & Recreation Bodies and Angling specific issues
  • Approaching regional event organisation in a clear and consistent way, especially effective working with Regions and the CSSC Event Team
  • Examining different options in terms of qualification to CSSC's National Angling Finals
  • Stakeholder Issues, particularly relating to Departmental Associations and new membership groups such as HM Armed Forces.
  • Risk Assessment arrangements for all CSSC angling events.

With a good size group, a broad mix of experience and a real desire to help CSSC angling progress, a great deal of constructive ground was covered.

The main topic for Saturday morning was Risk Assessment and this session led to the agreement of new procedures that will enable Angling to lead the way in this important area, delivering high quality events; safe for competitors and others.

Overall though, there was a real mood of co-operation in evidence and an appreciation that the best outcomes for members and for angling would come from good joint working between individual organisers, Regions, the Angling Council and the CSSC Event Team - all targeted at improving events and growing participation levels.
