Three very deserving winners of the Yorkshire Region Chairperson's Award were surprised at the annual conference held in Wakefield on 4/5 November.
Nicki Stowe
Along side studying for an accounting qualification at work, Nicki has been a strong, efficient and committed chairperson. She has been able to take the area association forward as well as successfully juggling her home, sporting and work life.
Nicki played a large part in the area winning Yorkshire Area of the Year 2010 award and the Area receiving the highly recommended Russell Scott trophy at National conference in June 2011.
She takes an active part in competitions run by the Area as well as Regional and National competitions as both competitor and organiser. She was part of the team that won the volleyball Barbados challenge in Bridlington in July and the rounders at the CSSC games.
She is always thinking of a wide variety of new offers the Area can offer members with a view to increasing the Area's membership and keeping existing members. Nicki has been responsible for setting up the area hotmail account, Facebook page, organising the sporting predictions competition, which has been adopted by the Yorkshire Region. She organises and obtained a theatre discount card and discounted Christmas panto tickets in December and January for the last two years.
Bob Pickering
Serving as Vice Chairman from 2006 to 2010 then Secretary in 2011 for the British Library Sports & Social Club, although unofficial minute taker and notice board tidier during all that time as well.
Does a bar shift on a regular basis and cover for deliveries.
Attends CSSC regional meetings and represents our members there.
Author of the British Library S&SC newsletter, never failing to make us laugh at some point with his unique writing style. Through his regular contact with members he is generally the first port of call for any type of question members have. He is perhaps the "brand" of our club!
Quietly gets on with whatever is needed, organises the visiting traders, can be relied upon as a voice of reason on the committee. Always acknowledges the good work of others and is an all round good egg.
Kerry Brown
Kerry is the backbone of the CSSC South Yorkshire Area Association. A founder member of SYAA, she's been Secretary since our formation in 2007. The role is demanding and Kerry has an equally demanding "day job", meaning she fits in her CSSC duties in her own time. And as a mother to two small children she already has a challenging work/life balance.
Kerry's responsible for keeping the Committee on track, arranging meetings, taking minutes and chasing action points. Kerry handles all the correspondence from our many and active members and deals with the enquiries in an efficient and friendly manner. She's also responsible for producing a fabulous professional newsletter, admired outside our Area.
On top of all this Kerry's the most active event organiser on our Committee, regularly organising diverse events. She's a keen sports competitor too, successfully competing in CSSC Bowls events.
This year Kerry's been a real star in sorting out issues with SYAA's finances - stepping in to sort out the accounts, working even more evenings and weekends, and intervening in an organised event to save the Club's reputation and funds.
If Kerry's the backbone, she's also head and shoulders above the rest. We couldn't do it without her!
