Mixed Rounders: A Sunny Success!

West Riding and Craven organised the annual Mixed Rounders event at Esholt Cricket club on Monday June 1.

Four teams had entered on what was proving to be a glorious, sunny evening.

The holders, Shipley, came up against some tough opposition in their first match against Leeds. This match saw a number of experienced players and some big hitting from both sides. Shipley's superior fielding with the strong and accurate arms of Saiqa Naaz, Donny Wooller and Lee Baron, helped to restrict the Leeds total and put them in the final.

Bradford Taxes started well, scoring heavily in the early part of the innings. Gul Rashid led the charge but they lost a few players and the rounders dried up.

Bradford Benefits and Friends didn't play like a makeshift team. With some big hitting and good pressure on the fielders, the team reached 12 rounders to make it to the final.

Leeds took a shine to Bradford Taxes bowling in amassing a huge total of 18 rounders. Bradford gave their best effort to try to match Leeds when it was their turn to bat but some tight bowling from Andy Parker and Shirely McLune meant third spot had eluded them.

The final saw Shipley defending well in the field and only making a few errors to restrict Benefits to 6 rounders. When it was Shipley's turn to bat, everything seemed to hit the sweet spot with Deb Atkinson, and Richard Archer smashing into the car park. Ihor Lewyk, Mandy Hurst and Mel Burgess peppering the spaces in the field and Lee Baron and Tracey Taylor-Dunne speeding through the bases.
