A hard fought few days at Loughborough University saw some tough competition for Y&H Ladies's 6-a-side football team, fondly known as The La La's. The team played their way through to the Cup tournament with a couple of great 3-1 and 4-0 wins along the way. The pick of the goals on the first day came from a corner set piece blasted into the onion bag by Carly Gill.
An injury to Kerri Smith was a loss in defence and upset the balance of the team going into the second day. Captain Dawn Macdonald, who was often the man marked in matches, switched the team around to try and get through the defensive walls put up by the opposing teams. The La La's ground out the right results to get through to the final with everyone pulling together and battling hard.
The team's pressure and hard work paid off in the final, with Y&H smashing North West HASRA 6-0. It was a great display of passing football from the whole team with nice link up play between Dawn, Carly and Jane Doig; a clean sheet from goalkeeper Angie Thompson helped by good defensive play from Jo Roberts. In midfield Amy Gilfoyle and Meg Guest worked tirelessly, with Debra Allott and Myra Jones coming on to help seal the result. Goals from Dawn, Carly and a brilliant hat-trick from Jane gave the team an emphatic win, the result meant that Y&H La La's retained their CSSC title for the 3rd time in 4 CSSC Games.
