Sheffield Member Attends World Masters Athletics
Troy Kennedy Appreciates the Help from CSSC...
"I was most grateful for the generous donation which Yorkshire CSSC provided me with towards the overall cost of my trip to Lahti, Finland for the World Masters Athletics in 2009.
I finished 7th overall with a new personal best of 5128 points. My previous best being 5015. This was 500 points more than my closest GB rival. I was very pleased with my overall performance up against some seriously talented athletes from around the world.
It was an incredibly long two days competition with both days finishing well into the evening. It is the first time I have ever had to complete a 1500m at nearly midnight.
Further to my achievements in Finland I also received the Victor Ludorum at the Civil Service Championships held in Wigan.
I also won the Silver in the British Masters Decathlon in Oxford in September 09. I was a little disappointed not to retain the gold medal I had won in 2008, but did have an injury and was happy to complete this event in one piece.
I have attached a couple of photographs which have been taken by Tom Phillips who regularly snaps the Great Britain team during their exploits.
My next major event is the European Masters Athletics Championships being held in Hungary this July."
