Crown Green Bowls Singles Qualifier Result

Pontefract Bowling Club played host to the Civil Service Sports Council Yorkshire region open singles qualifier on 4 June

The weather was very kind and everyone seemed to have a good time. There were 17 entries to this popular tournament.

This was a very challenging green for most but there was some excellent bowling on the day, with two groups of bowlers playing a round robin, each consisting of six games and the winner of each group playing in a final to determine the winner. There was plenty of bowling for everyone.

It was an all female final with Christine Sutcliffe beating Sheffield bowler Kerry Brown in a very close finish, 21-20 to take the Yorkshire title. Both ladies will now go through to the CSSC finals day at The Waterloo Blackpool on Thursday 17 September to represent Yorkshire Region.

Thanks go to Mervin Stanley, our regional chairman, for taking time to come along and present the Trophy and his positive comments: "What a great atmosphere there was and how much I enjoyed the spirit in which it was played. I would offer my congratulations to you, not only for winning, but for the professional way in which you organised the event at the same time. I don't wish to be patronising but it was good to see two ladies contest the final in a mixed event."

Mervyn is pictured with the two finalists with the winner, Christine, holding the shield.
