CSSC Wales - National Qualifier Llandegfedd reservoir 6 June 2008
Twenty two anglers competed in the CSSC Wales qualifier and weighed in a total of 63 rainbow trout averaging 1lbs 13 ozs.
A variety of methods were working but lures on a fast glass line seemed to produce the best response. Good areas were Soar Bay, the North Shore and the dam where concentrations of fish close to the margins could be observed feeding throughout the day.
Five anglers caught their bag limit of 6 fish. Bob Jones and Kieron Thomas were first to achieve their limits with Bob bagging up at 12.55 hrs and Kieron 10 minutes later. These two had represented CSSC at an inter services match at Grafham the week before when the CSSC were narrowly beaten into 2nd place by the RAF team. The winners were the crack Army team. It is hoped that CSSC will provide at least a modicum of support for this representative team next year so that they can compete on a level playing field with the top Services' teams at an event which is to feature in the national magazine (Trout Fisherman) shortly. Kieron and Bob now go on to represent CSSC Wales at the National Final in Eyebrook next August.
Fairly recent newcomers to the qualifier, Keith Bezant and Dave Haines-Knight had the next best boat with 9 fish weighing in at 17lbs 13ozs closely followed by 'old heads' Ronnie Lewis and Hywel Evans with 10 fish for 17lbs 8ozs.
Prizes went to Mark Eddy and Ronnie Lewis for the heaviest fish and heaviest bag (without time bonus) respectively.
