Find out more about the Welsh Regional Chairman!
Having always wanted to work in sport I took the opportunity that the offer of Voluntary redundancy gave me from the Welsh Assembly Government. Having a pretty good job working for the Welsh European Funding Office and having just taken over as Chair to CSSC Wales this was a massive leap of faith !
I decided that best way to follow my dream was to work for myself, therefore I set up Fairplay Sports. The idea was to offer rugby and basketball coaching in local schools and communities.
At the moment I undertake basketball coaching in primary and secondary schools in the Pontypridd area. I have built good relations with the 5x60 teams that work in secondary schools and I am working on building sustainable basketball clubs in the community, something that is currently lacking in the Pontypridd area.
I have also established school holiday rugby camps for children between the ages of 6-10, and is growing fast. Mini Rugby Stars is another initiative that is rapidly expanding. On Saturday and Sunday mornings children between the age of 3-6 can attend sessions that are based on having fun, whilst learning basic rugby skills. The club promotes sportsmanship, friendship and team building skills for young children.
Any business takes time to get itself established therefore to keep food in the fridge I have also taken a casual job with the Registrars in Rhondda Cynon Taff, and regularly attend wedding and civil ceremonies as the deputy registrar responsible for the all important paper work on the day - this is real good fun, and is a job that my wife Kerry is keen to take off me, but for the time being I am enjoying the experience that these events provide.
Somewhere in between all this I try to find time to be the Chair of he CSSC Welsh Region !! - All good fun though !!!!
