Mens Hockey Rep Report - Portsmouth

Mens Hockey Rep side end on a high note

CSSC ended their Rep season on a high note with two convincing wins in their second set of fixtures, brought about by a strong all round squad performance.

27 Feb - v Navy @ Portsmouth

CSSC were always on top in this game with Damian Paterson marking his debut season with two goals from penalty corner follow-ups. Despite allowing the Navy to pinch a goal back, CSSC contained any further Navy attacks well and completed a good win when Wayne Bennett converted in the second half. CSSC played some very attractive flowing hockey to overcome last seasons Inter-Services Winners with effective contributions all over the pitch.

Final score: CSSC 3-1 Navy

28 Feb - v Army @ Portsmouth

This comprehensive victory was also a personal triumph for veteran forward Richard Jones who scored four times. CSSC were 2-0 up at half time including a well deserved goal from another debutant scorer, Adam Wells. CSSC remained solid at the back and were well marshalled in midfield by Jonny Gordon and Wayne Bennett as Jones went on to score three more by midway through the second half, including the 'goal of the season' smashed past the Army keeper high into the far corner of the net. CSSC perhaps eased off towards the end allowing the Army picked up two late consolation goals.

Final score: CSSC 5-2 Army

There were quite a number of candidates for the 'Brian Ware' Player of the Season award which went to Kit Wyeth for his midfield prompting and tireless covering over all four games.

CSSC Squad: Willie Redpath (captain), Alan Cobb, Andy Dockley, Karl Blacklock, Jonny Gordon, Tim Hingston, Alistair Reilly, Wayne Bennett, Kit Wyeth, Richard Jones, Steve Lemon, Matt Taylor, Damien Paterson, Adam Wells, Nigel Raymond, Graham Wayland, Ernie Vickery (Manager) and Mike Hannon (Coach).
