South West Cricket - Barbados Challenge 2009 Report
After being postponed on 7 July, the 2009 SW 6s was played in the worst weather conditions anyone had ever played in on 10 August. The whole ground was covered in a wet, white sheen, as if it had been snowing, and it rained continuously all day. As the winners qualified to go to Barbados, the chairman and groundsman of Cornwood CC kindly let us play on the artificial wicket.
We started at around 11am with only 3 teams: Hassra A , Hassra B and Abbeywood MOD. We all played each other twice, Hassra A winning all their games and so qualifying for Barbados 2010.
There was an exciting finish for the runner up position as Hassra B and Abbeywood contested a super over after being level on points in the group. Each team amassed 12 runs but Hassra B won due to hitting more boundaries.
A special thanks to Abbeywood who travelled all the way to Plymouth with a depleted side to enable the tournament to go ahead. Without them, a team would not have been able to qualify for Barbados 2010.
