Southwest Tenpin Bowling Regional Qualifier Results 2011

The CSSC Southwest Regional Tenpin Bowling qualifiers were held at the Bowlplex in Bristol on the 24 June 2011.

There were 5 teams competing for the chance to represent the Southwest at the National Finals in Stoke-on-Trent later in the year. Competition was fierce with nothing much to separate the three leading teams. At the halfway stage the Straight Shooters had opened up a small lead, but the B B Jets and Devonport’s DRD Bombers were still very much in the mix. The Devonport team were not used to chasing the game after a ten year dominance of this event.

After a break for lunch, the Straight Shooters continued to maintain their lead, while the Devonport bunch struggled to cope with the lane conditions and eventually rolled out in third place. The B B Jets (Nick Collin, Dave Brookes, Kevin Crowther and Chris Harris) took the trophies for the handicap section of the competition; well done to them! However, the team that became Southwest Regional Champions for the first time were the Straight Shooters (Ged Whittaker, Andy Somerville, Nigel Cloke and Bill Mayling). The team will now go forward and represent the Southwest at the National Championships in November. Well done guys, and good luck from the Devonport lads (and Lynn), you have a lot to live up to!

It’s great to see a new team going forward as our champions and representing us at the National Finals. Tenpin Bowling in the region needed a new team to win, and this will hopefully muster up some fresh interest for next year’s competition. The other teams on the day were the HASSRA Pirates and HASSRA Saints, well done to them also.
