The first event for the Barbados Challenge, the General Knowledge Quiz Qualifiers took place in April and May 2008.
The three zonal qualifiers were held in Bournemouth, Exeter and Bristol and the top three teams from each automatically qualified. The next three teams in the order of merit qualified, however as there was a joint third place, both teams went through, taking the final to a grand total of 13 teams.
The teams through to the final on 7 November to be held at Cheltenham Civil Service Club are:
