CSSC Bournemouth Area Association News - April 2010horse racing

This is the second newsletter from what has already been a very busy 2010 in the Bournemouth Area Association. So far we have run an evening of 10 pin bowling and also held our AGM and a quiz night. At the AGM the results of elections for Chair, Secretary and Treasurer were announced. Berewyn Long was elected to the position of Chair, Dan Warden was elected as Secretary, and Roger Bishop was elected as Treasurer for 2010. If you are interested in joining the committee, please get in touch.

As well as sending out newsletters both electronically, or through the post, we are looking to improve our methods of communication with the Bournemouth Area members. We are hoping to launch a Bournemouth Area Association Facebook page to allow us to provide details of upcoming events and receive feedback from you.

We would like to announce 2 trips that we are ready to book places for. The first is a cruise from Poole Quay up the river to Wareham on Sunday 16 May. Times are subject to confirmation of tides, however we should be departing Poole at approximately 10:15am, arriving in Wareham at approximately 11:15 am. We will have an hour in Wareham, before departing back to Poole arriving there at approximately 1:45pm. The price of the trip does include a choice of lunch from one of the local chip shops that can be eaten whilst cruising back to Poole. The price of the trip is £6 for members, £9 for non members and £6 for Under 16s. When booking your place please advise us of your name, membership number, contact number, names of guests and what you would like to eat.

We would also like to invite you to spend a day at the races in June. We will be taking a coach to Salisbury Races on Sunday 27 June - for concerned England fans, don't worry you won't be missing a match in the World Cup!! Again the coach will be picking up from Poole Lighthouse, Bournemouth Interchange and Ringwood Meeting House Lane. We will leave Poole at 12:30 to arrive in Salisbury in time for the first race. The cost of the trip includes entry into the race coures and will be £7.50 for members, and £10 for non members. When booking places please let us know your name, membership number, contact number, names of guests and where you would like to join the coach.

In our last newsletter, we asked for a show of interest in golf, amongst other activities. We have been provided with information from a member who has provided us with details of both golf tuition and also a golfing day that we can organise at Canford Magna Golf Course.  We are also looking at other courses such as Iford Bridge and West Parley. What we need from you is participation - bluntly put, the more people that take part, the cheaper it is to offer. If you are interested in either the tuition or a golf day, please get in touch. The contact details will appear at the end of the newsletter.

April 2010

Our programme of summer events is also confirmed, we will be chartering boats for a fireworks cruise in July, and for the Saturday of the Bournemouth Air Festival in August. With strong participation from the Royal navy and RAF as well as the Avro Vulcan and a Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16 fighter display already confirmed, as well as a free BBQ on board, the air show cruise looks like a fantastic day out.

We will provide details of how to get your places on these 2 events in our next newsletter. To show interest in the golf, or to book places on the London Coach Trip, Wareham River Cruise, or Salisbury Race Day, please contact us either by e-mail at cssc@hotmail.co.uk or in writing.

Please note that we have a new address for written enquiries and for cheque payments, which is at CSSC Bournemouth, Flat 3, 1 Magdalen Lane, Christchurch, BH23 1PH. To make a payment for any of these trips, please send a cheque made payable to "CSSC Bournemouth" to the Magdalen Lane address providing the information requested for the trip, as well as contact information for yourself, should we need to get in touch with you.

If you are interested in playing snooker, please contact Derek Saddington. His e-mail address is jean.genie@talktalk.net and his telephone number is 01929 423657. Derek is very active in organising snooker events and is always keen to hear from new participants.

If you have an idea for anything that we could offer to CSSC members in Bournemouth please get in touch with us, we would very much like to hear from as many members as possible. If there is something that you would like to see run that has not happened yet, let us know, it may be that we just have not thought of it or do not know how to go about it.

We would like to hear from any members interested in Surfing lessons - when the weather picks up - as well as those interested in a day walking, or a day sea fishing. We would like to organise events around these activities should there be sufficient numbers interested to do so. Again, please get in touch if you are interested.

Finally, a big thanks to those of you who have already got involved, or participated in the bowling or Quiz nights. We hope that you enjoyed your evening. We also look forward to hearing from and meeting as many members as possible over the coming months. Although it is something of a cliche, this Area Association exists because of you, the members, and it is here to benefit you, the members. Please make use of the trips that are taking place, and if you would rather see something else run, let us know how we can go about it.
