CSSC Scotland now has two new World Champions. David Galloway (Forestry) and Craig Mitchell (HMRC) struck gold at the World Indoor Tug of War Championships in Cesenatico, Italy at the end of February. Both men were in Scotland's 680 Kg side that took on and beat the best in the world including sides from, Serbia, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, England and The Netherlands.

For David in particular, this was a baptism of fire. He impressed the Scottish coach while competing for his club, Tinto, at the UK Championships and was drafted into the Scotland squad. He had only 6 weeks training to reach the standard that his team mates were achieving with 10 weeks training. It was asking a lot but he made it and performed well.

Craig was hoping to go one better than in 2008 when he was in the team that lost in the final to the Dutch. "Losing the last final was really difficult because the judges disqualified us when both sides were equal" said Craig, "When we made the final this time and it was the Dutch again I was determined that we'd win. As it happened we really dominated and there were no mistakes."

David and Craig now have a World title to defend and are looking forward to doing so in 2012 when Scotland hosts the Championships in Perth.
