Edinburgh Civil Service Club - Update

Unfortunately, not a lot has changed with progress on deciding the future of the Edinburgh Club since my 2007 update. It is now over two full years since the Edinburgh Area Management Committee went to the CSSC Finance Committee about the ongoing losses suffered by the Edinburgh Area in running the club and grounds at Marine Drive. At the end of March 2007, Play Football submitted plans to Edinburgh District Council for 10 outdoor all weather 5 a side pitches with floodlighting and these plans were eventually passed in October that year. However, having got the go ahead for the outdoor facilities, the team tasked with taking the project forward then decided that it would be more sensible to have the pitches under cover. They have drawn up new plans which, at todays date, have not yet been submitted to the Council. The net result of all this is that we are now into the third year of discussion about the future of the club and grounds and the Edinburgh Area continues to make a loss. The Edinburgh Area AGM is booked for Thursday 24th April at 7.30pm in the Edinburgh Club. This is later than usual, but it should allow us to get an update on progress with the proposed application. If the time taken to get the last application approved is anything to go by, it will be well into this year before the Edinburgh Area will be free of the burden of running a club and grounds and we can put in place a committee to take forward the interests of the 3,700 (approx) members in the Edinburgh Area. All members are invited to attend the AGM.
