SPGA Links Championship 2009 Report
Read Sandy Douglas's report from the Links Championship 2009.
There were 18 players in attendance at this year's Links Championship, competing for the new trophy given to us by Falkirk AA. Due to the excessive rain falling on the morning of the championship, my mobile was red hot but, with the reassurance of Elie Golf Club that the course was playable, we all travelled up to the course. On arrival, we saw that the course was in perfect condition but the weather was horrendous! Therefore, with numerous waterproofed layers, gloves and hats, we set out to take on the course.
After a few holes, it was obvious that conditions were tough for walking, never mind playing golf, with everyone soaked through and having no grip on the club. No matter how hard the conditions are though, there will always be a player who will overcome the elements and put in a score. That player was Kenny McGuckin for the second year running with a cracking score of 76!
Ronnie MacDonald won the handicap first prize with a respectable net 72. I would like to thank everyone who made the effort to attend as the roads were really dodgy. Well done to those that finished the 18 holes - I think there were 11 of us in total. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Anne Young and Bill Tripney for taking the time and effort to attend the prize giving and give out the splendid Links trophy. Also, the SPSSRA for their support and financial input as without this, these competitions would end up being more expensive.
The next event on the SPGA calendar is the Winter Links meet which will be held somewhere on the east coast in January.
