Update on Edinburgh Civil Service Club

David Cant, Edinburgh Area General Secretary, presents an update on the Civil Service Club, Edinburgh.

As was the case in my update in March last year, there is not a lot to report on when the Edinburgh Area Association will be relieved of the burden of running the Edinburgh Club and grounds.

Last year, I reported that PlayFootball had obtained planning permission in October 2007 for 10 outdoor all weather 5-a-side pitches with floodlighting. They then decided to go for an indoor facility and, late in 2008, planning permission was granted for 8 indoor 5-a-side pitches next to the existing club.

Unfortunately, because of the possibility of bird migration in the area being affected by building work over the winter months, one of the planning conditions imposed restricted building work to the beginning of April through to the end of August.

The result of all this meant that, despite getting their application approved, PlayFootball were not ready to commence work in April of this year and it looks as if it will be April next year before work will actually start.

However, even that has not been confirmed and, at the moment, the Edinburgh Area continues to run the Club and Grounds with additional support from CSSC HQ.

The AGM was delayed this year as we had hoped to have had some positive news for the members. However, we can delay no longer and the AGM has been set for Thursday 30 July at 7.30pm in the Edinburgh Club.

All members are invited to attend AGM.
