Harness Racing within the CSSChorse racing

Harness racing is believed to have started with people racing their horse drawn buggies home from church before developing through breeding into the Sport it is now. In Britain, these trotters/pacers have been racing for over a century at places such as Musselburgh, and more recently Appleby, Cumbria, Tregaron, Wales, and Bellsfield, Falkirk.

Scotland's only racetrack is based at Corbiewood, Bannockburn.

This Sport has a massive following in the USA, Canada, Australia, NZ, and Scandinavia.

While harness racing doesn't enjoy the mass popularity of flat or National Hunt racing, the skills required are just as demanding. Speeds of 35mph can be reached by the horses driven by drivers on a well balanced cart called a "Sulky".

Horse in picture is Y-Not-Me (2000-2009) winning Bellsfield, Falkirk for the 2nd time in 2008. He also won the biggest race in the British Harness Racing Calender, The Famous Musselburgh Pace in 2006. This was a real "Warhorse" who alone took the Y-Not-Stables to the top table of the sport where real horsemen took notice of what we said and did with our horses.

CSSC Member Paul Cullen has his own stables, the Y-Not-Stables, people kept asking him why he kept horses and he said: Why not?

The stable currently runs with our very good broodmare Riverbank Mybatross, who has and will hopefully; produce the stars of the future for the stable.

Update

The 2011 season is in full swing with Wellfield Bonzer having raced with 3 wins & a second under his belt from only 5 starts.

With the help of Central & Forth Valley AA we hope to bring a new experience to members by inviting them along to race meetings to meet the horses when they are running. As well as keeping everyone up to date with their progress throughout the 2011 Race Season.

Yours in Sport

Paul Cullen
