The Zits reign supreme!

Once again………The Zits reign supreme

The world of 5 a side first caught a glimpse of the team known as ‘The Zits’ back in 1983.

The original ‘famous five’ consisted of Roger Curlett, Dave Wheeler, Mike Dolan, Tony Kershaw and Dave Leeson, and in 1983 they won their first North West CSSC 5 a side competition, following this success they went onto the CSSC national finals held at Meadowbank in Edinburgh, and they followed their North West success with a win at the National competition.

Over the past 28 years ‘Zits’ have come and gone, but have always maintained a high standard of football, and in 2011 the current bunch, once again had success at the North West CSSC regional competition, with Will Dolan scoring 5 goals in the final. As with previous teams, ‘The Zits’ have been made up from HMRC staff based in Bootle, Liverpool.

The Zits competed in the CSSC national finals at the JJB Soccerdome in Manchester on the 28th October and were the defending champions. I am pleased to report that not only did they win, but the player of the tournament was also from the Team. Well done Ollie Telford!

Over the years the different ‘Zits’ teams have won 19 regional CSSC competitions and about 8 national finals, also in that time they have won approximately 15 regional RCSL competitions and about 7 National RCSL competitions.

If you think you have what it takes to beat the Zits, then join us at the NW CSSC Regional 5 A Side competition usually held in September at Play Football in Crosby, you may need more than just calling your team ‘Clearasil’.
