CSSC North West are Bowling Brilliant

CSSC North West were extremely well represented in Crown Green Bowls throuhgout 2007.

Of the five National Awards handed out in the activity, four went to members from the region with Duncan Crabtree of DWP Preston just missing out on adding to that tally with the biggest prize of them all.

After succeeding to reach the final of the National Open Individual Event, which included nine bowlers from CSSC North West, he fell at the final hurdle as Darren Lord of Telford proved too strong on the day with a 21-18 victory.

That scoreline proved to be Duncan's nemesis as he was also on the receiving end in the Regional Trophy. This time Rob Fitzpatrick (Royal Mail, Birkenhead) took the crown.

Elsewhere the CSSC National Team KO Final was an all CSSC North West affair with HASSRA North West 'A' retaining their trophy against CSSC North Fylde, 143-140.

Veronica Lyon (Whiston) won the Ladies National Merit at Hove Edge, Brighouse, early in the season while Linda Hough (DWP Widnes) won the £50 voucher from sponsors Hotter Comfort Shoes as she became the woman bowler achieving the highest position in the Individual Finals.

To complete a glorious list, Jacquie Lord (HMRC Stalybridge) and Mary Wrench (HMRC Manchester) were triumphant in the Ladies Pairs tournament which took place at Meresbrook, Sheffield, in August.
