NW Cricket 6s Report

Eight teams competed on the first day in 2 groups of 4, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The intention was to have the winner and runner up in each group to play in the semi final but the weather intervened which led to a hasty change of plan.

The morning group had to have a bowl off in the nets to decide the winner, as the grounds man (quite rightly) decided that the pitch was unplayable. The afternoon session went ahead as scheduled as the sun came out and dried the pitch, but after consulting the captains we decided that the winner of the group would go straight to the final.

Group A Winner: Central and East Lancs CSSC A

Group B Winner: CRB Airforce

The winners who qualified for the overall final the following week were Central and East Lancs who won a close contest.

The second week had 8 teams playing in 2 groups of 4, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The winner and runner up from each group qualified for the semi final.

Group A Winner: HASSRA Fylde

Group A Runner Up: Court and Bowled

Group B Winner: HASSRA NW

Group B Runner Up: Bolton

This day was played in glorious sunshine. The morning session was dominated by HASSRA Fylde who won all 3 games and the surprise package were Court and Bowled who won 2 games and progressed to the semi final.

The afternoon session was dominated by a HASSRA team, this time HASSRA NW. The other qualifiers from the group were Bolton.

Winners of the 2 semi finals were the two group winners and HASSRA NW won a closely contested final.

The overall final was a very one sided affair with HASSRA NW winning in 2.1 overs!! After last years heroics my bowling came back down to earth – 1 ball 0 maidens 0 wickets 10 runs!! Well done to HASSRA NW who will now represent the region at the national finals – good luck lads, do us proud.

Thanks go to the following for help with officiating:
Peter Sullivan, George Rawcliffe, Dave Nutter, Nick Thornley, Nigel Clarke, Ian Davies, Richard Thomas, David Waine and Paul Machell.

To Phil Burke, Matthew Taylor and John Hogg from CSSC for help with administration.

To St Annes Cricket Club for their hospitality and the chef for an excellent selection of food.

Finally next years competition is booked for July 4 and 11 at the same venue – hopefully see you all there!!
