Event Description Spend a day out at Otterburn army camp on the DCCT ranges
The DCCT (Dismounted Close Combat Trainer) is basically a huge video game. There are 10 shooting bays, five on each side controlled by a central computer. Each bay has a gas operated gun, but the guns are real in every way, you have to do the correct drills, load, unload, cocking, change mags etc and the feel of a shot is the same as with real bullets (kick) the only difference is nothing comes out the barrel so it is 100% safe. All firing is under the supervision of the range officer.
The DCCT can do normal range activities, i.e. targets art different distances, moving targets, falling plates, anything you can do on a full bore range. As well as analysis of the shooter, breathing, hold, position etc. However it can also do scenarios, i.e ambush, night attack, urban clearance etc with real-time actors.
