| Despite all efforts to get a 6th team to make 2 groups of 3 there were only 5 teams that entered this years competition and accordingly in order to give everyone at least a couple of games 2 teams were 'seeded' to the afternoon group with the other 3 playing in the morning group and the group winner joining the 'elite group' for the afternoon play. However on arrival at the ground a 6th team appeared - apparently having entered directly with CSSC HQ - hastily the draw was re-arranged with the additional team accommodated. The Newcastle Contact Centre Team (Rough Riders) comfortably won the morning group and looked a good bet to give the reigning Regional and National Champions, CSSC TWN A (hand picked from the Newcastle Estate Curtis-Bennett Squad affectionately known as the 'superstars') a good game in the final. (should they win the afternoon group) As it happened CSSC TWN A did win the afternoon group thus setting up an intriguing final. CSSC TWN A batted first and were surprisingly pegged down by some accurate bowling finishing with 60 for 1 off their allotted 5 overs. Things got worse for the reigning champions as Rough Riders opening two batsmen rattle off 40 runs off the first 3 overs and looked well set. However, what can only be described as a 'rush of blood' from one of the batsmen in trying for a dodgy second run, resulted in him being run out... CSSC TWN then exploited the frail batting to come and a couple of quick wickets resulted in restricting the opposition to 50-3. So it was the 18th time in the competitions 23 year history that 'Curtis-Bennett' lads won the regional competition.
