The North East Boat Angling Qualifier
The North East boat angling qualifier was held out of Amble on 25 May 2011.
Although the weather forecasts from the previous days were not looking good, it was decided to go ahead as planned. However, on the day competitors were greeted with a clear blue sky and next to no wind. Finshing commenced at 8:30 with the first fish being caught some 30 seconds later.
The fishing was steady throughout the day and everybody caught fish, some more than others. However the format of the event rewarded anglers who cuaght different types of fish and not the number caught. As the wind picked up trips and spills became more frequent and by 15.30 three anglers had called it a day, and in the case of one, he vowed never to boat fish again and offered his fishing tackle for sale.
Although it was a weather beaten crew that stepped ashore they were not deterred and were eager for results. these showed the closeness of the competition and the value placed on catching different fish. |
